ISTE*T: Standard 4
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
ISTE*T: Standard 4.a
Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.
The artifact above is an example of Fair Use, which advocates for - and models/teaches - safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology. This video falls under the Code of Best Practice's Category Two: Using Copyrighted Material for Illustration of Example. I used a variety of primary source clips to illustrate the history and important artifacts related to the three most popular winter holidays. To ensure the video was in compliance with Fair Use policy, I measured against the four criteria: character, nature of the original work, amount, and market value. Understanding Fair Use, copyright, and best practice can help educators advocate, model, and teach the safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology. ISTE*T: Standard 4.b
Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
The artifact above is a mock classroom website. To access the website, simply click on the image above. Since I do not yet have my own classroom, I set up a mock website to show how teachers can help students have access to learning at home. This webpage shows how all students can manage their own goals, learning, and progress, through accessing online resources and information. *It is important to note that not all students have access to technology at home; no projects or information would be provided only in the online format. If this is an issue with students, a possible piece of technology may be lent to them and their families, or students will be given time in class to go through the materials on the website.
ISTE*T: Standard 4.c
Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.
The artifact above is an example of Fair Use, which is a model for digital etiquette and responsible social interactions. This video falls under the Code of Best Practice's Category Two: Using Copyrighted Material for Illustration of Example. With Jordan as the backdrop, I used examples of its exquisite landscapes as seen in popular films. To ensure the video was in compliance with Fair Use policy, I measured against the four criteria: character, nature of the original work, amount, and market value. Understanding Fair Use, copyright, and best practice can help educators advocate, model, and teach the safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology. For a copy of my written defense of this piece, please just contact me.
ISTE*T: Standard 4.d
Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools.
The artifact above is a screen capture of my travel blog. Educators and students should use their personal experiences in an effort to collaborate with colleagues and peers around the globe. This one selection of my blog allowed me to explain my learning process of another country through a Western lens.
